We believe in sustainability—to being good stewards of the resources that have been gifted to us.

Lisa Frye Garrison, our founder, has a longstanding commitment to sustainable business practices.  She founded the Sustainability Committee at her prior, large firm, which implemented several new initiatives, including “Firmly Sustainable”—periodic tips sent by employees to employees about how to practice law in a more sustainable way.  Lisa has also organized and hosted several programs for students and businesspeople at Uwharrie Charter Academy, North Carolina’s first public charter school to implement the NC Environmental Literacy Plan into its curriculum.  These events included a program featuring speakers from North Carolina’s Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (formerly NCDENR, now NCDEQ) and the Center for Sustainable Enterprise at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Our firm follows myriad sustainable practices.  These include a paperless filing system, recycling program, double-sided printing, single-spaced drafting, recycled office furniture and supplies, water service from LeBleu (a NC company), reusable tumblers/mugs (in lieu of paper cups), and using paper with recycled content and/or from sustainably sourced forests.

We also believe that sustainability applies to one’s most precious resource—our employees.  We provide competitive wages, low billable hour expectations, and health-friendly equipment and policies.  For example, we encourage tele-commuting and office-sharing, and we provide laptops to all attorneys and paralegals to encourage those practices.  We offer full-time employees generous paid vacation time and unlimited cellular service.  We provide ergonomic keyboards at all computer stations and have printer station set-ups that encouraging a healthy, active office lifestyle.  Most of all, we encourage our employees to be outstanding friends and family members … and that includes not working on weekends unless it’s absolutely necessary for our clients’ needs.
